Helping a Global Confectionery Mitigate Geopolitical Risk

Our Objective

The global food industry faces major potential disruptions due to geopolitical threats including broken agricultural supply chains, climate impacts to crops, and policy changes related to everything from front-of-package labeling to sugar content and marketing to children. Our objective was to support one of the world’s leading confectionery companies in understanding and staying ahead of shifting dynamics in key global markets to inform their business strategy.

Our Approach

Our team curated a global cohort of food and beverage and trade policy experts to develop a biweekly analysis spanning key markets from India and China to the Middle East and Europe. We also underwent extensive training on our client’s culture and offerings to gain a holistic understanding of their position across global markets. Our resulting analysis went well beyond a roundup of weekly articles that may be relevant to their business. We summarized trends and developments, provided strategic insights on how these dynamics would shape key policy discussions and subsequently impact their business.

Our Impact

Our detailed reports kept the global public affairs team and senior leadership apprised of major developments in their sector before, during, and after they happened. By establishing this routine exercise, the importance of monitoring and anticipating geopolitical developments was internalized by the company as a key aspect of maintaining success. This understanding elevated the internal positions of their public affairs and government relations teams, who were recognized as crucial to informing business strategy in this fast-evolving world order. As a result, Basillina’s impact continues to elevate the company’s competitive edge.
