Ambassador Irina Bokova is an Executive Director at Basilinna. Irina has dedicated her career to public service. From 2009-2017, she served as Director-General of UNESCO, where she led the modernization of the organization. Irina also served as the personal representative of Bulgaria’s President to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (2005–2009). While she was Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister and Secretary of the Council of Ministers for European integration, she advocated for the European integration of Bulgaria. She also served as a Member of Parliament from 1990 to 1991 and from 2001 to 2005, and participated in drafting Bulgaria’s new Constitution, which contributed significantly to the country’s accession to the European Union. She is now engaged in a number of scientific, educational, and cultural institutions globally to promote global engagement towards supporting human dignity and human rights.
