Quieter Oceans are Key to Conservation

Our Objective

A newly launched ocean conservation group engaged our team to develop a commercial advocacy strategy and roadmap to address the impact of ocean noise pollution on marine ecosystems. Ocean noise pollution can interfere with every aspect of marine life, with potentially far-reaching consequences for biodiversity, the climate, and the global economy. Our objective was to identify the major industry   contributors to underwater noise pollution and create a framework to raise awareness and drive behavior change to address the issue.

Our Approach

Our strategy was to rally key industry leaders from across sectors around a voluntary pledge to reduce ocean noise emissions, providing a tangible way to engage key stakeholders and demonstrate action. We grounded the pledge in extensive research of the issue and its impacts, principal players, and existing and proposed policy and technical solutions. From there, we identified key figures from marine industries, ports, and the finance and insurance sectors and developed strategic talking points and an engagement roadmap to secure both their input and support for the pledge.

Our Impact

The voluntary pledge quickly garnered support from top industry leaders across the green shipping space, demonstrating that major stakeholders are eager to implement and engage in readily-available actionable solutions. With sustained targeted engagement, we built momentum for the pledge ahead of a major investment conference. Gathering cross-sector players to discuss the issue of ocean noise and potential solutions, we built strategic partnerships and laid the groundwork to expand advocacy efforts around ocean noise and other commercial issues relevant to ocean conservation and regeneration.
